New Yorkers Lay Blame for NYC Transit Woes on Gov. Cuomo, Poll Finds

By Kenneth Lovett

ALBANY - The majority of New Yorkers believe Gov. Cuomo is in charge of the troubled downstate mass transit system-and most don't believe he's doing a very good job, a new poll found.

And the fallout of the transit crisis is seemingly impacting his popularity and reelection numbers, the Siena College poll found.

"The drops in his job performance and re-elect ratings - which both fell by double digits with Democrats, Republicans, independents - are wholly from downstate voters," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

According to the poll, 52% of New Yorkers, including 53% in the city, hold Cuomo most accountable for overseeing mass transit managed by the MTA.

Just 33% statewide, and 35% in the city, believe its Mayor de Blasio.

Overall, just 26% of New Yorkers say Cuomo is doing an excellent or good job with the transit system, compared to 59% who say he's done a fair or poor job.
